May 16, 2010: Version 6.1: This version now supports RedRocket rendering, the new color science, and the new gamma and color spaces. To use these features you must have the beta REDline installed. In addition, the program now checks to ensure the output codec is available. We changed the GUI to now show the overall status of all sources, including the View All Results button and the master Good/No Good icon. In addition, the Retry All Errors button, which is displayed only when there are errors, will retry all errors on all sources. This version fixes a bug in 10.5 that caused extremely slow copies. We also fixed a bug where the Verify Checksums button may not find existing checksums. The activity log now indicates when files are skipped due to user preference. We removed the alternate checksum folder option, as it is no longer needed. We also fixed a bug where the source was read from even if the copy was to be skipped to all destinations.
Version 6.0 completely rewrites our copy process code. The program now does a copy pass first, so that at least a copy of your data is stored should something happen to the original. In addition, its not possible for our program to write anything to the source at any time. We also re-wrote the code to only read once from the source and write to multiple destinations in one pass. This is a significant time savings. We also now unified our code between the Mac and Windows releases for the copy process. Though each version will have slight differences, the heavy lifting is done by the same code on all platforms. We have supported the announced Epic details for some time, but this version now aligns our software with newer Epic updates. We also fixed a display bug in R3D File Recovery.
Version 5.4 adds the ability to store Red Media types with Identifiers. You can now set a Red Media type with a Media Identifier. It also adds the ability to separate footage based on camera roll number, with a custom suffix. R3D Data Manager will automatically sort the footage based on the camera roll letter, creating the directory if it doesnt exist. We changed the percentages shown in the copy window to be based on Gb copied / Gb to copy, which now more accurately reflects how far along into the copy process the program is. We also added a routine to prevent consumer drives from going to sleep, enabled in preferences. This method writes a small file to each destination every 60 seconds. The files are hidden, so they wont prevent normal operation. We added a new range of character sizes in timecode window burn. All the sizes are now smaller, the smallest being just a couple of pixels and the largest being about 10% of the window size. This version adds timestamp and destination list as options to sms/email reporting. Now R3D Data Manager will append the time and destination list to email and sms messages, for a more complete picture of what is done and when. We added a new help window discussing options when checksums fail. This should help you to debug why a checksum error happened and what you can do about it. We also added detail to explain why registration is invalid or trial has expired and added more optimizations for Mac OS 10.6. We fixed the following bugs: fixed registration window close button, bug in display of Red Media Identifiers, bug in display of R3D File Recovery window.
Version 5.3.1 fixes a bug in the preferences updating that affects a small number of users.
Version 5.3 announces support for integration with Cache-A LTO devices. R3D Data Manager now will write to and confirm that data written to Cache-A LTO4 devices will be written correctly. This version has a few other minor upgrades, including tabbed preferences, support for new ProRes codecs, internal log changes and official support for Mac OS 10.6 (even though previous versions work fine on 10.6).
Version 5.2 modifies Growl and SMS/Email notifications to now include the source path in the copy status. We also added the ability to setup Red Media Identifiers in the preferences and select from them in the Project Information update window. A new preference was added to remind the user to update Project Information when auto-start is enabled and a new Red Media is mounted. You can now attach the logs to your email notifications (Not recommended if using SMS, as the logs are verbose). We added a mini-result icon per destination, so the user can see which destinations erred easily. The icon updates with each source. The program now saves a master log in the user's library, and removes old logs after 30 days. Before each copy the sources are checked to ensure they exist before starting a copy. When auto-start is enabled and a new Red Media is mounted, the program will clear from the queue all sources that are completed and successful. It will then try to copy everything in the queue again, including previous sources that have not been removed and were not successful. We added the ability to change/update the Project Information area as the copy is in progress and it will save those to the ProjectInfomation.txt file. We also fixed the following bugs: recopying footage after an error and a bug in UI updating.
Version 5.1 now shows a dialogue box confirming with user if user tries to quit program while a copy or checksum process is in progress. We also added Growl notification support. ( http://www.growl.info ). We fixed these errors: in certain instances clicking on "Halt" during a copy process would crash the system, some subsystems were not updating the main UI about its status, and some errors in the program help. We also made some mall code adjustments for performance.
Version 5.0 now shows a dialogue box confirming with user if user tries to quit program while a copy or checksum process is in progress. We also added Growl notification support to the copy & checksums, Quicktime render and R3D recovery processes. ( http://www.growl.info ). We fixed a bug where in certain instances clicking on "Halt" during a copy process would crash the program. We fixed an error where some subsystems were not updating the main UI about its status. We fixed some errors in the program help, and made other small code adjustments for performance.
Version 5.0 requires Mac OS 10.5, as 10.4 doesnt not allow access to certain functions. We added a R3D Recovery window with the ability to recover R3D files from bad media, sort them, re-create folder structures and reference movies, and print out a report with all the details. We added the ability to save initial checksums to a different directory, so the Red Media will not be written to during the copy phase. Quicktime Render now has the ability to render multiple clips at once to make full use of all processors on a system. Quicktime rendering can now also render to DPX files, or to 1/4 4k resolutions. R3D Data Manager can send you a text or email message when it completes a copy, render or recovery operation. In addition, it will also bounce the icon in the dock, and change the icon to indicate the copy result. If you have a destination setup and mount a Red Media, the copy process will start automatically. R3D Data Manager will also now format your Red Media, ready for use on the camera complete with roll number. We added an ETA to the copy and rendering process. R3D Data Manager will triple check that your destinations exist right before writing. The Activity Log now has additional detail, detail from the render and recovery windows, and is saveable as a text file. We fixed a bug where quicktimes were rendered with a _001 suffix. We put the project information area into a sheet to make better use of screen real estate. The Quicktime Render UI is smaller and now fits on smaller screens. We added a "step by step" help, which points directly to relevant items.
Version 4.3 fixed an error where some buttons were not properly linked. During our testing phase everything did check out, but somehow the release version did not have some buttons assigned to the proper action.
Version 4.2 adds a ton of new updates to the program. First, we added the ability to only error when R3D files dont pass checksum verification, so you wont get errors on quicktime or RSX files. In addition, the results box will now show the errors first, instead of trying to find the errors. We added the ability for the program to eject drives that have successfully copied when you click on "reset". In the quicktime render module, we moved all the options to sheets, requiring less screen real estate. In addition, we added a reticule option so you can setup a user frame on the Red One camera, and use the exact same settings for your user mask. We also added a whole compliment of Avid DNxHD options to render to and the ability to render timecode on just the first and/or last frame instead of all frames. We also added 1/4 4k options, 1024x576 and 1024x512 to render to, and factored all rendering options up to 6k - meaning its already Red EPIC ready.
Version 4.1 fixes a few errors with the render module. In addition to enabling the renders to be faster, it also changes the GUI to better indicate what the options mean, and provides the ability to turn off look options. We also added the ability to render a single RDC folder and updated the UI to indicate the number of frames rendered.
Version 4.0 announces the long-awaited quicktime rendering module for R3D Data Manager. Perfect for batch rendering, this module allows you to render R3D files into quicktime files. You simply select a variety of options, and render away. You can even assign looks to render to, and each file will use them.
Version 3.1 fixes a few errors. We fixed the checksum generation to skip RDC folders that already have checksum files in them on Red Media. We also revised the way we detect Red Media to avoid false positives. In addition, we added help items to each button and smoothed out the keyboard shortcuts.
Version 3.0 includes the queue management system. You can setup a queue of up to 200 sources, and R3D Data Manager will sequentially copy them to up to 4 destinations, ensuring that each copy is valid and correct.
Version 2.4 introduces support for copying the digital profile files and log files, for further analysis by Red. In addition, we now have a 30 day trial version enabled.
Version 2.2 introduces support for the new directory structure introduced in RED build 15. This version now supports the old and new directory structures, even in a mixed environment. So your data is always copied, now matter which build version you shot on.
With the 2.0 series of the R3D Data Manager comes a lot of improvements, including a complete overhaul of the underlying source code. The improvements make the system 20% faster than before, and provide more options and error checking to make sure your data copied over correctly. In addition, this version introduces a tracking and audit feature, recording scene, RED MEDIA and other info to project files.
